Adventures in Odyssey Wiki:Town Hall
For new discussions please post in the new town hall found here this will help us decide what system to use moving forward |
The Town Hall is a place where users can meet and discuss larger changes to the wiki, such as policy proposals and new ways of displaying and organizing information. It serves as a way for users to be involved without having to find a relevant discussion page. Please be constructive and courteous when corresponding with fellow editors and add new discussion topics at the bottom of the page.
AIO Club App Page
I was thinking with the recent update to the club app it would be appropriate to give the app it's own dedicated page. With a similar setup as the AIO Audio Player app, with version history, App icon history, screen shots from each version of the app, etc... I don't know if thats something someone would help me with, but I think it would be nice since we're the AIO Wiki. Aioduck29 (talk) 15:53, 23 November 2019 (MST)
- Yes, I’ll create a page. - JaySmouse (talk) 07:02, 27 December 2019 (MST)
Current Podcasts
The section of the main page that says "current podcasts" reads that the latest podcast is the interview with Tucker Chandler when the latest podcast is really the interview with Kimmy Robertson. puzzlemaster (talk) 12:05, 7 December 2019 (MST)
- That's because the latest podcast pages, Official Podcast 342 and Official Podcast 343, don't exist. If you could please create them, that would be great. Scientific Guy (talk / AIOC Episode Timeline) 16:21, 7 December 2019 (MST)
- I did Official Podcast 342. First time creating a podcast page. If I did anything wrong, let me know because I am going to try to create the others later. puzzlemaster (talk) 18:15, 7 December 2019 (MST)
Https
Is this site ever going to be hosted with a TLS/SSL certificate? As-is, the login form isn't protected, and user credentials could be grabbed by someone listening on the network. There are free certificates (letsencrypt), and here the wiki is still on plain http as we start the new decade in 2020. Sayno2quat (talk) 12:00, 17 December 2019 (MST)
- thanks for the info I've ordered a certificate from them. should be installed soon Reddo (talk) 14:23, 30 December 2019 (MST)
- it's installed now, I rewrote the htaccess file to always redirect to https, some pages may show up only partially secure due to images not being loaded over https but those errors should go away over time as the wiki's cache is cleared out and pages are regenerated, let me know if there's any weird issues that show up in the next few days Reddo (talk) 14:48, 30 December 2019 (MST)
- I've fixed several errors related to https in the last few days here most noticeable is probably the mini audio player function I think it's all fixed now but there could be more Reddo (talk) 18:21, 26 February 2020 (MST)
- This is great! Was hoping to eventually have this added to the wiki. Good job, Reddo! I have gone ahead and started changing some templates and CSS to include the proper protocol to help address the insecure image issue. I'll keep on the lookout for other similar fixes to make as time goes on. — Eugene [talk] 13:10, 2 March 2020 (MST)
AIO Wiki Site Sending Invalid response
I have had problems accessing the Wiki lately. I have been able to use it from Safari on an iPad, but that is painstaking and hard to use. In Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Edge it simply redirects to Google Search. In Chrome it displays this error message (screenshot: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B383g4L9u_TOeklOSFpaVm44aFo1bXY0T0pfWlZsejlxZDFR/view?usp=sharing) that says, "This page isn't working" and, "www.aiowiki.com sent an invalid http response". I don't know much about websites and stuff, so I tried entering "http://www.aiowiki.com" (aiowiki doesn't have an ssl certificate, right?) but the same happened.
Any help or answers would be appreciated, {{SUBST:subst|User:JaySmouse/Signature}} (talk) 22:01, 27 December 2019 (MST)
- The server might have been down for a bit, I haven't changed anything on the backend for a few months now so it was probably just a temporary thing. How often have you been getting that error? Reddo (talk) 14:24, 30 December 2019 (MST)
- I just got a similar error about 5 minutes ago, while I was rejecting invalid accounts. It's fine now for me. Scientific Guy (talk / AIOC Episode Timeline) 14:31, 30 December 2019 (MST)
- Almost every time I try to access it on the described browsers. {{SUBST:subst|User:JaySmouse/Signature}} (talk) 06:32, 3 January 2020 (MST)
Editing the whits end page
--Cinerelsa1 11:22, 17 January 2020 (MST) can you edit the whits end page?
- Yes. To do what, specifically? FlYiNg FiSh-YoShI SaN (talk) 12:34, 17 January 2020 (MST)
it seems very out of date in photos history and facts it doesn't really have the recent stuff --Cinerelsa1 16:56, 21 January 2020 (MST)
Please Create My Page
Hello I would really like someone to create my page (I do not know what to call it so I will put page) I am thirteen but new to coding so if someone could do that for me thanks my name is --Cinerelsa1 12:35, 23 January 2020 (MST)
Spoilers
Moved: Originally on Talk:Triple J Antiques
I personally thought it was important to remove the spoiler. The fact that there is a spoiler under "Current Employees" spoils that there IS a new employee! Is there somewhere I can read AIOWiki's policy on spoilers? I have looked but I can't find anything. puzzlemaster (talk) 13:55, 24 February 2020 (MST)
- While I didn't look to see what the spoiler was, I have my own guess as to who this "new employee" probably is. (I haven't heard 67 or 68 yet, I'm going to listen to them after I relisten to recent albums & club shows, I'm on album 56 right now) Anyway, I have strong feelings on this topic. I've been frustrated for a long time by the lax treatment of spoilers on the wiki. Just like Puzzlemaster said, putting "spoiler" on a page is often a spoiler all by itself. (I remember using this argument in the past) I don't believe it looks good to have spoiler warnings at random points in a given page. I know Scientific Guy likes to update pages as soon as new information is available, but I believe it is better to wait until all episodes in a new album have aired before adding new information to other pages. I don't believe it's ok to add info from shows that haven't even aired on the radio yet. I have lost self control on several occasions in the past, and got spoiled, because there was a random button in the middle of a random page, and I kicked myself because I would've rather found out when I heard the episode for the first time. We shouldn't be "Dangling the fruit in front of peoples faces" so to speak, and then saying "Well, if you clicked the spoiler, and the surprise got ruined for you, it's your fault, you should have more self control." When, in reality, it's Our fault, the people who run the wiki, for creating this problem in the first place. Remember, there are still more non Club member fans than Club member fans. The majority of fans still hear new shows when they air on the radio or when they buy the CD. Let's give them the respect they deserve. This way, the only pages they have to avoid are the unaired episode pages themselves. (Even when I was more up to date with album shows on the club, I still waited till all the episodes were available before I listened) Of course, for club shows, continue to add info when the episode is available. The only place we should have spoiler warnings is at the top of unaired episodes and the top of albums that haven't been fully released. AIOrocks101 (talk) 15:55, 24 February 2020 (MST)
- Back from album 53 when i discussed it with Nathan we had talked that spoilers were allowed on the unaired episode and album pages but shouldn't appear on other pages such as character pages until after it had aired on the radio. That way people wouldn't be reading about Monty and see that he's in (spoiler warning) the green ring but people could read the episode pages and know that he's in it. If we had a spoiler warning on the page for Monty people would probably figure out that he was coming back even without clicking on the spoiler tag.
- I don't think i ever really posted that here as an official spoiler policy but the wiki had a lot less editors back then, and I was a lot more involved than I am now, I'm sure it's on some users talk page and that's about it. I didn't make an official policy page about it as it wasn't really needed with only 4-5 editors and I would rather make content related stuff than a policy page.
- I'm not saying that should be our policy but I think it's a good starting point at least Reddo (talk) 16:41, 25 February 2020 (MST)
- Thank you for the response! That sounds good to me. puzzlemaster (talk) 17:11, 25 February 2020 (MST)
- Thanks for the reply, Reddo! I think this is what our policy should be. AIOrocks101 (talk) 17:51, 25 February 2020 (MST)
- I was the one who changed the policy, implementing partial spoilers on pages other than episode pages, and editing Infobox Character and Character Appearances to show Unaired episode. I'll begin rolling back those changes incrementally. (I see some stuff has changed around here. I'll be getting used to it over the next month or so.) - Just gonna bump this discussion because it’s relevant again. How does this spoiler policy apply to Rydell Saga#Dates and Mrs. Rydell? I asked on Skylerbuck’s talk page but was reminded that I had already chimed in over here. Scientific Guy (talk / AIOC Episode Timeline) 15:15, 16 July 2020 (MDT)

random site fixes
is there anything on the site that annoys users in its current state but people are unsure how to fix themselves? I'd be glad to help out I just did the folding tabs for the images in the album box, might not be perfect yet but I think it's a big improvement. I've also been fixing various other things here and there. If you can think of anything let me know, if not I'll start working on updating the server to new versions of php and mediawiki Reddo (talk) 14:02, 27 February 2020 (MST)
- One issue I've noticed is on album pages with previews for the episodes, the mp3 file covers up the episode title. AIOrocks101 (talk) 21:42, 28 February 2020 (MST)
I noticed that "Sellers" is spelled incorrectly on Zachary Sellars and Eileen Sellars.I EMEads (talk) 10:22, 6 September 2020 (MDT)
server update
I updated several parts of the server software tonight, I think everything is still working but please let me know if I broke something and I'll do my best to fix it post-haste Reddo (talk) 23:10, 27 February 2020 (MST)
- Issues
- Done mobile version links don't work
- Done category gallery doesn't work
- Done JavaScript sideshow
I had to roll back the php version to 7.3 for now, 7.4.2 has a bug that's targeting Scientific Guy personally, 7.4.3 fixed it but we don't have access to that yet Reddo (talk) 15:46, 1 March 2020 (MST)
- These pages say internal error. The Blackgaard Chronicles (book series), Cross-Check, Rook's Ruse, Young Whit (book series), Young Whit and the Shroud of Secrecy, The Imagination Station (book series) AIOrocks101 (talk) 11:21, 3 March 2020 (MST)
- Not sure if it's related to the server updates or not, but the mobile version icons don't show up anymore. Like, the search, menu, home and other UI icons in the toolbar and menu. I'll poke around a bit to see if I can figure out why, but thought I'd point it out in the meantime in case others might know what the issue is. — Eugene [talk] 03:18, 28 March 2020 (MDT)
looks like the slideshow extension is not installed? https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:JavascriptSlideshow ~ OdysseyFan (talk) 17:34, 3 April 2020 (MDT)
- How about let's not reinstall the slideshow extension since we're looking to completely redo the Main Page anyway. No sense in reinstalling if we're going to uninstall it soon. We can just change it into a simple list for now that isn't animated for the meantime. But that's just my thoughts. There's no problem reinstalling the slideshow if it's not too difficult and people would prefer to have it back for now. — Eugene [talk] 18:12, 4 April 2020 (MDT)
Album Appearances
Can we automate the album appearances text/scripting on the character Pages with DPL list categories, etc? OdysseyFan (talk) 09:43, 3 April 2020 (MDT)
- Done check out Matthew Parker, to me it doesn't look good yet, straight lists link this aren't easy to read Reddo (talk) 13:10, 5 April 2020 (MDT)
- I also added in the album images to the template, I tried breaking it up into columns but I'm still not happy with how it looks Reddo (talk) 13:54, 5 April 2020 (MDT)
Town Hall 2
Is there an easy way to access the Town Hall 2? It's so hard to find, and it's not linked anywhere on this page. puzzlemaster (talk) 23:53, 3 April 2020 (MDT)
- Here's the link: Adventures in Odyssey Wiki:Town Hall2.
- I think that we need to decide if we want to use the new system or the current system. I do see many immediate advantages with the new system, but we won't really know the impact until we use it primarily. Does anyone have any feedback or concerns about the new discussion system? I haven't looked at it too closely yet, but I do like the format and the ability to add summaries, archive topics, mark as resolved, etc. I'll play with it some more in the next little while. Maybe we should temporarily use the new system so we can see how we feel about it?
In the meantime, I'll add a link at the top of this page for people to use.Edit: If we use the new one, then we can add links and stuff. Let's not confuse people on which one to use right now. — Eugene [talk] 03:31, 4 April 2020 (MDT)
