Young Whit and the Traitor's Treasure Young Whit and the Shroud of Secrecy Young Whit and the Thieves of Barrymore

Plot

On Halloween night, Johnny and his friends, including Emmy and new acquaintances Steve and Paul, decide to go trick-or-treating. During their outing, they notice strange lights emanating from the abandoned Granville mansion, rumored to be haunted. Curiosity piqued, the group decides to investigate.

Inside the mansion, the children accidentally fall through weakened floorboards into a crawl space, where they discover a hidden coffin with a boot protruding from it, hinting at a concealed body. This unsettling find raises questions about the mansion's history and the identity of the deceased. Determined to uncover the truth, Johnny and Emmy plan to return and explore further. Meanwhile, Johnny grapples with the significance of a mysterious cloth bequeathed to him by his grandfather, which previously exhibited healing properties. As Johnny delves deeper into the mystery, he learns about an illegal operation involving the production of Rakia, a Bulgarian moonshine, taking place in Provenance. This discovery connects to Professor Karl Mangle, an old friend of Johnny's father, who is desperately seeking the miraculous cloth to heal his ailing son, Steve.

The children's investigation leads them to uncover the illegal moonshine operation hidden within the mansion. In a tense confrontation, Johnny uses the healing cloth to save Ben, the school handyman, who was injured during the ordeal. The revelation of the illegal activities brings the culprits to justice, restoring peace to Provenance. However, the story concludes with a tragic turn as Johnny's stepmother, Fiona, loses her sight in a horseback riding accident.
