Welcome Back!

Hi! I just wanted to welcome you back to the wiki. You've done a lot of good work here on the wiki, and behalf of everyone, I want to thank you and welcome you back. - Sunnys <BIBLE|-- ~Talk~

Thank you Sunnys! Erwin Springer [talk] 10:05, 25 June 2014 (MDT)
Long time, no write? Nice to see you have found your way back. I wish I had time to be on more but working two jobs (one of which starts at 6:30), sort of slows you down. Ahh, the pains of growing up! Nice to see you back! Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 18:45, 1 July 2014 (MDT)
Hey SWA! I'm glad to be back. It sure has been a while! Erwin Springer [talk] 19:44, 1 July 2014 (MDT)

AIOFansite.

Erwin, would you be interested in being an assistant editor for the AIOFansite? Much thanks! Jamesobie (talk) 21:57, 27 June 2014 (MDT)

Hi Jamesobie! I'm honored you'd ask, but unfortunately I have too many other commitments to be able to accept that position right now. Good luck with your site! Erwin Springer [talk] 09:11, 28 June 2014 (MDT)

subst: templates

Do you remember how to substitute the value of a template? I think we figured it out once, but I can't remember how Reddo (talk) 20:23, 6 July 2014 (MDT)

Never mind, found it. Is your bot still working? if so we should run it on all episode pages and replace "| new = yes" with "| chart={{subst:Episode Position2}}" then in the character chart template we call {{{chart}}} and it'll fix the few little niggles left with my quicker version so it lines up with your more accurate version Reddo (talk) 20:33, 6 July 2014 (MDT)
Unfortunately I can't run my bot from the computer I'm working on because it's not compatible with Python 3, which I have to keep on my computer for some development projects I'm working on. However, I might be able to run it from a different computer in about a week or so. Erwin Springer [talk] 08:44, 7 July 2014 (MDT)
That's rather annoying, I'll see if I can get mine running, I had it on my old computer but it suffered a huge battery, mother board, graphics card and ram failure, only thing was good was the hard drive. After I got my new computer I never bothered getting python or the bot set up, on a side note, isn't it possible to have both versions installed? on another side note, what sort of projects? Reddo (talk) 17:32, 7 July 2014 (MDT)
Hmmm. I never tried installing both. If I find time I might try that. As for the other side note, I'm working on a model of a board game as part of a summer research project. Exciting times! Erwin Springer [talk] 19:20, 7 July 2014 (MDT)
I got mine working, it just finished running. What game if you don't mind me asking? I had to model a few games for my AI classes and then try train the Computer to always win Reddo (talk) 21:47, 7 July 2014 (MDT)
It's Monopoly. I'm attempting to model different playing strategies to find which ones work best. Erwin Springer [talk] 07:23, 9 July 2014 (MDT)
oooh, monopoly, that would be fun, I never did any luck/dice based games I think it'd be interesting Reddo (talk) 18:22, 9 July 2014 (MDT)

College?

You seem to know your way around templates and the such, so I was wondering what did/are you studying in college? If you don't want to disclose that is okay. Thanks! Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 08:55, 7 July 2014 (MDT)

That's okay! You may ask. I'm currently studying mathematics, which ties in closely with computer science at times. Erwin Springer [talk] 08:59, 7 July 2014 (MDT)
This fall I am going to be studying Computer Science, but I am kinda second guessings that choice after I got a 1 on my AP Calc exam. I did get an A in the dual credit class, so it is already transferring that credit in. I did very well in English both years, so I don't know. I think for now I am sticking with CS to see how I like it. I know I want to do something with Computers, just not sure what yet. What do you play on doing with your math degree? Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 09:05, 7 July 2014 (MDT)
I hope to teach, but I might also decide to work in industry. I'm going to see how things pan out. Do you have any career goals? Erwin Springer [talk] 09:10, 7 July 2014 (MDT)
Wow, I give mad-props to you for wanting to teach, especially in math. What grade level? I have thought for a long time that I wanted to be a software engineer, but I am not quite sure anymore. I have often said for awhile now that I want to go into the Peace Corps. I don't know if I have the guts, but I do know I would like to see the world before I settle down. God created so much and I would find it kind of depressing to go 4 years of college, get a job and that's it. I say the Peace Corps because you become in-saturated with that culture, it's paid for, and I believe it would change my perspective of the world for the good. Why does growing up have to be so difficult? :) Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 09:17, 7 July 2014 (MDT)
Wow, being in the Peace Corps would be quite the experience! Best of luck as you seek out what's best for you. As for me, I'm hoping to to teach at the secondary level. Erwin Springer [talk] 07:25, 9 July 2014 (MDT)

Video/Book Infoboxes

The video and book infoboxes also need to be updated to included the urls in the infobox. I would attempt to do it but as you can see in the Album template, I struggle mightily to do so. Thanks! P.S. I will work on the album ones slowly, work is kinda keeping me slowed down. Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 18:59, 17 July 2014 (MDT)

Check.svg Done. I added the links to the video infobox. They were already in the book infobox. Erwin Springer [talk] 19:06, 18 July 2014 (MDT)
Thanks, somehow I must have been successful in editing that template. Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 23:17, 18 July 2014 (MDT)

Reddo, official podcast

Do u know which official podcast Reddo was interviewed in? Jamesobie (talk) 18:55, 18 July 2014 (MDT)

Hi Jamesobie. Reddo and fellow webmaster Shadowpaw were interviewed on Official Podcast 139. Erwin Springer [talk] 18:58, 18 July 2014 (MDT)

Podcast Transcription

I know there are a few other projects I can work on but I had a quick question. Out of pure laziness, I was wondering if you knew if there was a fast way to transcribe the podcasts to text. It wouldn't have to be exactly correct because it would be easier to simply listen for corrections then copying. Or, if I ever get around to it do I simply need to listen and copy down what is spoken? Thanks! Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 17:16, 19 July 2014 (MDT)

That's an interesting question. I don't know of any software that could assist in the transcribing process, but I wouldn't doubt that it exists. Best of luck on your search, SWA! Erwin Springer [talk] 17:22, 19 July 2014 (MDT)
I know I looked into it a few years ago and there wasn't anything good out there at that time, but software's come a long way since then Reddo (talk) 17:54, 19 July 2014 (MDT)
So, somehow this is one area of technology that is majorly lacking without having to pay for it. The only thing I came up with is copying the file, converting it, then uploading it on youtube and using their transcript...but I can't legally do that being FOTF holds the copyright. Guess I just have to do it the old way. Oh well! Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 19:22, 19 July 2014 (MDT)

?

Are you on right now or is that a bot?--Gaberk 08:00, 23 July 2014 (MDT)

It's me! Live and in person...er...live and in text. Erwin Springer [talk] 08:03, 23 July 2014 (MDT)
Okay, cool, I was wondering because you were editing really fast. --Gaberk 08:06, 23 July 2014 (MDT)

Edits

How do you edit so fast? Gaberk (talk) 10:51, 10 August 2014 (MDT)

One thing that increases my productivity is the use of tabs. Sometimes I will open a series of pages that I'm working on in different tabs. Other than that, I've had a lot of experience working on the wiki. Does that help? Erwin Springer [talk] 11:34, 10 August 2014 (MDT)
Yes, it does. I will try to use that method in the future, as it seems most productive. Gaberk (talk) 19:13, 10 August 2014 (MDT)

lua

I noticed you were playing around with lua, I updated it to a newer version and imported a bunch of modules, it no longer gives an error on page load Reddo (talk) 22:09, 22 August 2014 (MDT)

Thanks! Lua looks like a good way to build more powerful and more efficient templates! Erwin Springer [talk] 07:08, 23 August 2014 (MDT)
Thats what I had thought too, originally I was planning on switching the episode infobox over to it as that's a rather large template, but there were some bugs it in when I first added it and by the time the bugs got worked out and I was able to use it without errors I had gotten too busy with other things and just never came back to it Reddo (talk) 10:18, 23 August 2014 (MDT)

As Crusty as they Want to be

Even Reddo decided we should keep that. I understand why you removed it, but since Reddo said it's fine I think we should keep it. - Sunnys <BIBLE|-- ~Talk~

I definitely understand his point of view, that if we don't link to any outside content, no one will be lead to a sight with obscene content. However, my view is that having that tidbit could also indirectly lead visitors to bad content. My hope is that we can claim to be clean and “family-friendly” site. Mentioning that connection might lead visitors to things they really don't want to see, and (possibly) prevent them from coming back to AIOWiki. To build a good reputation we need to be sure to keep the site as clean as we cabby removing anything that has the potential to show users anything inappropriate. Although Reddo is technically the webmaster, in this instance I think I will use the “veto” that I have been granted to say that we should not include that information. You have the freedom to petition Reddo, but I really think this decision is in the best interest of the wiki. One piece of trivia on a page does not make or break us, but leading users to inappropriate sites is definitely not in our best interest. Erwin Springer [talk] 20:21, 27 August 2014 (MDT)

Lists of episodes

The issue with the list of episodes seems to be fixed now, so you can remove the site notice. The problem was since the episode pages had not been edited since the site went back online, they never registered themselves as being in the categories, thus the categories were empty. I forced all the episode pages to update using the api, which seems to have fixed it. --KnightMiner (t|c) 10:15, 1 July 2015 (MDT)

Check.svg Done Awesome! Thanks Knight. Very astute observation. Erwin Springer [talk] 11:12, 1 July 2015 (MDT)

Administrator Question

How can you become an administrator? Jesusboy03 (talk) 18:55, 28 December 2015 (MST)

Hi Jesusboy03! Welcome to the wiki. The promotion to administrator is usually made out of a technical necessity. Administrators are needed to sort through all of the new content on the wiki, delete spam and authorize new users. If new administrators are needed, good candidates have been editors for a while and have a good sense of the different areas on the wiki. A bureaucrats can give a user the administrator flag. Hope this helps! Erwin Springer [talk] 15:36, 29 December 2015 (MST)

Thank you! Jesusboy03 (talk) 12:34, 30 December 2015 (MST)

OdiseaAlbum.jpg

Where did you get this image? http://www.aiowiki.com/wiki/File:OdiseaAlbum.jpg and any idea where I can get this actual Item?

Hmm. I really not sure. I thought it was on podcast blog, but I couldn't find it there. There was a website at aventurasenodisea.com but it looks like it's down. Good luck tracking it down. Erwin Springer [talk] 08:49, 23 May 2016 (MDT)
