<< The Electric Palace Do-Dah Song | You Have the Right | My Ode to Macaroni >> |
"You Have the Right" is a song sung for the judges of "America Sings!" by Officer Stew Burke. Much of the humor of the song is in the fact that he is a police officer, and it is filled with jokes referring to this, such as his begging her for a "10-4", and the title itself, which reminds the girl that she has the right to remain silent, even though he is madly in love with her.
Lyrics
- I am your man in blue.
- And I'm so in love with you.
- But I don't know what to do.
- I haven't detected one clue.
- But beat as my heart for you.
- And I've got a case of blues.
- You're cute and you're shy, it's true --
- But darlin' if only I knew.
- But you have the right -- to remain silent.
- Here in the code book.
- Anything you say -- could be useful to me.
- Answer my hope from above.
Spoken
- Oh darlin', this is a 911 call.
- It's an emergency of love.
- You light up my life code three,
- A siren that calls for me.
- But please don't you pull 10-3
- Don't stop your transmission to me.
- Now give me a 10-19,
- And I will be on the scene.
- No longer a wall between.
- What a treasure a 10-4 would mean.
- My love is in custody,
- You have arrested me.
- Please make your bond and I'm free!
- But you have the right
- to remain silent.
- Here in the code book.
- Anything you say
- Could be useful to me.
- Answer my hope from above.
