Welcome!
Hello, AriaCurzonFan, and welcome to the Adventures in Odyssey Wiki! Thank you for any contributions that you have made or will make. If you need help, check out our welcome page or the town hall, ask me on my talk page, or place helpme
on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome; I hope you like the place and decide to stay! Erwin Springer [talk] 13:17, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
Re: Hi I'm new here. Can you help me?
Hi Aria, I'm Natedude24, one of the administrators here. The other active administrators include Erwin Springer and Reddo. AIO Wiki works (mainly) just like Wikipedia. Your contributions so far has been just fine. You don't have to have to have a whole lot of computer knowledge to edit here. You can get code help on Wikipedia and MediaWiki. Other than that, just enjoy the wiki, and if you see something that needs to be fixed, do so. Ideas are always good too. It's better though if you post ideas in the Town Hall. God Bless ~ Nate ~ Talk 17:07, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
- He said most of what needs to be said...as for quotes, please direct me to where quotes are inaccurate, and I can help you fix them. Erwin Springer [talk] 23:30, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
Re: Picture on User-Page
If you you click on the the 6th botton (a picture) that comes up when you edit a page. The first one on the list is B (Bold), then I and so on.
This should come up:
Erase the example and put the character you what first and last name. You may have to replace .jpg with .png. To make inside of the frame thingy add |thumb after .png or .jpg. To have a discription you have to have thumb plus a | after thumb.
Example:
If that doesn't work go to the character's page and copy the name of the image and replace the Example with that image.
For the userbox the (This user listens to Adventures in Odyssey). I just clicked edit and copied the userbox. Other users like Natedude have more userboxes.
I hope this covered what you wanted. Stop Wooton Around 23:12, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
Free Episodes
You list some of the episodes available on the official podcast on your user page. We have a complete list of available episodes available, so I don't think there's really a need for them on your user page. God Bless ~ Nate ~ Talk 20:08, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
News items
I just wanted to make sure you figured out how to make a news item for the home page. Proverbs 22:9 Elementus Green 17:53, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
By the way, if you need to edit an existing news item, you can go to the News:Archive/2010, edit that page, and then scroll to the bottom where it has the "templates used" list, and you can edit the entry for whichever date you need to edit. Proverbs 22:9 Elementus Green 18:12, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
Userboxes
No, I'm not Natedude24, but I thought I could answer your question. I asked Erwin Springer the same question a while ago and this is the response he gave me:
I'm glad you asked. We set it up to make it easy. Go here first. There is a list there of the userboxes already created. To create a new one, put "Template:Userbox/name" in the search bar and click create this page. Then use the userbox template to create one. Here are the parameters:

for example:

produces:
File:Chick that's not fair.jpg |
Put something like that on that subpage you created. Next put:

On your userpage to use it.
I hope that helps. AIOCREFan 18:52, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Hi, AriaCurzonFan; first, thanks for the work you've been doing formatting the ep pages correctly, linking up the right stuff and deleting the repetitive links -- it really makes the wiki look clean, and I appreciate it. Second, I just wondered why you deleted Bernadette Sullivan's picture? I know it's not that good of a pic, but it is the one her agency had up for her. Just wondering your reason? Again, thanks for the work you've been doing -- you're really makes the wiki look great. Rachel Maxwell 14:41, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
- Hello Rachel,
- Well I didn't know you put the picture up, so I'm sorry I removed it. Secondly, it wasn't really a picture of her face, and it's not the greatest of pictures so I thought it really shouldn't be up. The picture just looked kind of...I don't know...strange. But if you want it up, that's fine.
- By the way, when someone leaves a message on my talk page, should I respond there or on their talk page? --AriaCurzonFan 07:24, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
- Oh, it doesn't matter that I put the picture up, I was just wondering. You're right, it's a lousy picture (I think she's breathing fire, or pretending to breathe fire or something -- it's very weird), it was just the only one I could find. I tend to agree with you though -- like you said, you can't really see her face.
- As to replying, you can reply on either page, it's just easier for the other person to see if you reply on their talk page. Sometimes if I'm having a conversation on talk pages I'll copy/paste the other half of the conversation on my talk page so I'll have the whole thing; so you can reply in either place, it's just more certain the other person will notice if you reply on their talk page. Rachel Maxwell 13:52, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
Impressed.
Good catch on the Whit's sister thing... I was just wondering if you remembered that just because or if you noticed since My Brother's keeper was coming up on the broadcast schedule. Or was that just a "coincidence"? Proverbs 22:9 Elementus Green 18:57, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
- Hi! Well, I listened to My Brother's Keeper today, and then listened again. The second time I caught the sister thing. I remembered one of the Q&A questions asked, "Was Whit an only sibling?". I think Reddo answered, I'm not sure. I thought, 'Hey, Whit did have a sister!' I don't know how to edit the family tree thing, (if I tried, I'd ruin it all :-), so I hope someone with the ability can put her up. The only thing is, was she Whit's stepsister or sister. Maybe it was his stepsister, cause in Thank You God, Fiona only calls for Harold and Whit, so maybe she had a daughter after her accident. --AriaCurzonFan 19:13, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
- P.S. Are you the one who is studying in Israel? If so, that's cool cause I went there! --AriaCurzonFan 19:13, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm studying in Israel. I'm in Haifa right now.
- I think there's a few possible explanations; Fiona had a daughter after going blind (stepsister of Whit), or there was a daughter who died (before Fiona, sister of Whit). In Brother's Keeper, Whit's sister was playing with his toy soldiers, and was old enough to be found lost. So if it was before Fiona (who came into Whit's life at age 5), then Whit's sister would be REALLY young. Also, Fiona was saying that it's been pretty hard on Whit what with his mother dying and all-- no mention of a dead sister. Also, if the daughter was born after she went blind, then Whit would've been seemingly pretty old to be playing with toy soldiers. I'm pretty sure that what we have is a case of My Brother's Keeper being a re-airing of a Family Portraits episode and maybe a little out of canon.
Pendragon
I saw on American Eagle's page that you like Pendragon. Well, just though I'd point out that in http://whitsendblog.org/2010/04/new-video-podcast-contest-winner-revealed/ the poster behind "Connie" is the Pendragon movie poster and someone in the court room has on a Pendragon shirt! --Aria 12:35, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah! I noticed that! I am glad that somebody else noticed as well! So, how do you hear about the movie? Have you seen it? If so, what did you think? MarvelousMarvin 21:50, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
For the Birds
There is an Alfred Hitchcock movie called The Birds. It's where some birds attack people. does that have any connection to this episode? --Aria 16:48, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
- Hmm. Interesting. It might. I'll email whitsend.org and ask them. MarvelousMarvin 02:50, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
- What did they say? --Aria 13:44, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- I still haven't gotten a response. It usually takes them about a week before you get a reply to your email. Even then, they may not respond to this one because it is probably a rather unimportant question compared to some of the other email that they get. MarvelousMarvin 11:59, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
- Okay so first I will post what I said to Focus and then I will post their response to me.
- To Adventures in Odyssey: I have a question about the Adventures in Odyssey episode called, "For the Birds". I talked to someone who noticed that there is an Alfred Hitchcock movie called The Birds. It's where some birds attack people. We were wondering, does that have any connection to this episode?
- We’re pleased you asked about the episode, "For the Birds." Although this program was not based on Alfred Hitchcock's _The Birds_, Eugene does make a passing reference to the film. Connie does not pick up on it - but it sounds like you did!
- There is your answer. MarvelousMarvin 21:03, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks! --Aria 06:45, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Only Mentioned Characters
Why delete pages that have only mentioned characters? Just because they were only mentioned does not mean they need to be deleted. Any admins have an opinion? AIOCREFan 01:37, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
- I think we should create a page devoted to characters that are only mentioned, as they don't fit the bill for normal character pages. Erwin Springer [talk] 01:46, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
- Erwin, that's a good idea about the page for characters that aren't mentioned. AIOCREFan, the reason I put the delete thing up was a while back, I asked Erwin or Reddo about making a page on a mentioned character and they said not to cause it wasn't a real character. --Aria 07:40, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
- Do you mean a format for not-mentioned-characters? Just like we have diferent formats for regular characters, episodes, books, and movies? AIOCREFan 14:15, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
- I meant that we should have one page with a list of all "mentioned" characters. Erwin Springer [talk] 21:27, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

A few things
Hey Aria,
I saw you were going through a lot of the episode pages and doing some maintenance, and there was a few things I wanted to mention.
- In the summary of episode pages, every character, place, and thing that is mentioned that has its own page needs to be linked to, regardless of whether they are linked to other places on the episode page. This is because the summaries are transcluded onto the album pages, the today's episode section of the main page, and the season pages. For instance, the summary for A New Era, Part 1 says: "Upon returning to Odyssey, Leonard faces a crisis while Eugene and Katrina get disturbing news from the Ashanti tribe in Africa." The words "Odyssey", "Leonard", "Eugene", and "Katrina" need to be linked to so that on the links will show up on the album 49 and 2007 season pages.
- Also, when you link to a page, avoid using redirects. For instance, when adding a link to the word "Eugene", instead of simply doing this--Eugene, do this--Eugene. The reason for this is that it's simply less attractive to have the words "redirected from Eugene" at the top of the Eugene Meltsner page. It's also better to link to the page the user is going to end up at anyways.
- In the quotes section on the episode page, it is not a problem to have links going from the quotes to another page. For instance, on the page A Capsule Comes to Town, Stuart Shepard says, "Odyssey--where anyone would want to live." I can't see any problems with adding a link to the page "Odyssey". The quotes and thus the links are transcluded onto the main page and the character quotes pages, and that is the main purpose of those links.
- Also, in the quotes section, when naming the speaker of a quote, it is better link to the full name of the person delivering the quote. For instance, when Connie is speaking, don't just link to the word Connie, link to Connie Kendall. Otherwise, the quote won't show up on her quotes page. When naming the speaker it is usually best to do this--Connie KendallConnie. This causes the word "Connie" to display, even while linking to the page "Connie Kendall".
- Also, when using the episode name template, be sure to add the episode number to the template by adding this--|num=yes, to this--episode name, making this--. With over six hundred episodes, it is hard to keep track of which ones went where in the series, so adding the episode number is helpful for users of AIOWwiki.
I've almost certainly said more than I should have, and I apologize for the the extremely long and confusing post. I really appreciate all the cleanup and other work you've been doing recently. Adding the episode picture to the episode pages was a great idea! By the way, I am amazed at how you stay so active with school going on. Keep it up! MarvelousMarvin 15:43, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks Marvin, for the information. But the only thing I understand is "In the summary of episode pages, every character, place, and thing that is mentioned that has its own page needs to be linked to, regardless of whether they are linked to other places on the episode page." Do you mean if a plot has 10 mentions of Connie, each one has to be linked? A while ago, Rachel Maxwell put a message on my page and in it said, "linking up the right stuff and deleting the repetitive links -- it really makes the wiki look clean". So I thought I was on the right track. But thanks for pointing those things out. I'll try to remember them! :-) Proverbs 31:30Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. ~ Aria ~ (talk)
- No, Rachel was right. You do want to remove repetetive links--if they are in the same section of the episode page. Note the difference between the word "summary" and "plot". The summary is the shorter part at the top. The plot goes more in depth to tell what happened in the episode. The summary is transcluded onto other pages and therefore needs to have the extra links in it (same with the quotes, by the way). Hope that helps! Thanks for the response. MarvelousMarvin 20:40, 25 September 2010 (UTC)
- One more thing--please read this conversation on the in the Town Hall. MarvelousMarvin 14:00, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks Marvin, again. But let me get this straight. For example, this sentence: Connie's first episode was #4: “Connie Comes to Town”, would use the quotation marks, right? But what template would you use without the " " but still with the number? I tried and it came up with: A Rathbone of Contention Proverbs 31:30Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. ~ Aria ~ (talk) 14:22, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
- There is no episode template to use that doesn't have quotation marks. In cases with no quotation marks you have to do the episode link and number manually. You can ask Erwin to create an episode template with no quotation marks if you want. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Sorry it took me so long to respond. MarvelousMarvin 19:01, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Timeline
Hi Aria! Emailing through the wiki, if the user has it selected to be allowed, works like this: go to the userpage. There is a sidebox thingy with the option "email user". You have it disabled so I can't email you the timeline directly--you'll need to send me one first if you're still interested. :) Rachel Maxwell 22:55, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, you can disable email at anytime. However, if you'd rather not have your email out there at all (and I don't blame you a bit) I think Reddo is looking at the timeline to see if he can make it presentable to be put on the wiki. Rachel Maxwell 15:53, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
Your undoing of my edit
Hi, on the article List of quotes by the Barclay family, you undid my edit. Can you please explain why? Originally, it only had George's quotes, in which case, it should be moved to 'List of quotes by George Barclay'. Was it not formatted correctly? All I did was add quotes by the three other members.
- she undid it as there already were quotes for the other members, mary donna and jimmy all have their own subsection on that page for their quotes, when you edited you added everybody's under georges section as well Reddo 21:07, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Signature
I finally learned how to do it. for you, you will put in your preferences, Signature , and then underneath it there should be something that says "Treat signature as wikitext (without an automatic link)" and your going to check mark that, then just treat it like normal by putting ~~~~ at the end when ever you are posting something, and it should work. Bye Aria, and God bless. Jared DeWhite (talk) 06:02, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
- farewell Aria, you really helped out here, it's too bad that you have to go but I respect your decision to put school first. I hope you're okay with the admin thing, I trust you and would make you an admin, but i also know that you've been busy with school and don't necessarily have time to do it right now. Anyways best of luck in school and you're welcome back to the wiki anytime Reddo 06:43, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I also hope your OK with the admin thing. I do not wish to create any hard feelings about that. I also would trust you as an admin. You have done a lot of things for the wiki that I didn't have time to do. Unfortunatly, school does get in the way of working on the wiki. I know this from personal experience. I generally do not have time to edit much because of school. However, I do have some free time and I usally use at least part of it to edit here. If you look, since school started, I haven't done any real editing in a while, just a few here and there. Then when school lets out, I have a lot more time. I hope this is the case with you, because you did a lot since you have been on here that the rest of us did not have time to do. Hopefully, you can come back when school lets out. Thanks again for all you did for the wiki. AIOCREFan 16:30, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
