“The Return of Harley, Part 2” is episode #71 of the Adventures in Odyssey audio series. It was written and directed by Phil Lollar, and originally aired on May 6, 1989.
Summary
Officer Harley returns to Odyssey and is caught up in a mystery involving bootleggers and hidden caves!
Plot
Officer David Harley is back! He comes into town to take Steve Larson on a promised motorcycle ride. But Steve is no longer in town, so David takes Jack Davis for a spin instead. They're on their way up to Trickle Lake when Jack spots a deserted road. Officer Harley and Jack investigate and discover a van on the road, parked in front of a hidden cave. Two guys are loading boxes into the van from the cave. David tells Jack to hop off and stay put. Then Officer Harley races up the road toward the cave and van to investigate. On his way up the hill, his motorcycle hits a booby trap. Harley's motorcycle careens out of control and crashes down a steep embankment. Jack runs back to town and is followed by one of the men from the van.
Jack gets Whit, Connie, and his parents to return with him to the cave. But once they get there, everything is gone - the van, boxes, motorcycle, and even Officer Harley! And since Jack tends to have an overactive imagination, no one believes him.
Later that night, the man who followed Jack into town suddenly appears in Jack's backyard. The man tells Jack that if he ever wants to see David again, Jack had better make sure no one believes his story.
Meanwhile, David regains consciousness and finds himself in the home and care of a kind farmer named McKinney, who found him the night before. David thanks him for his hospitality and races off. Jack's parents don't believe his story, but they allow Jack to go back to the mysterious cave - where they are startled to see Whit. Whit has thought it over and has decided that Jack's story is worth investigating. Just as Whit deduces that Jack's story is true and that they are, in fact, dealing with bootleggers, they're captured and taken to the bootleggers' hideout. It's now left to David Harley to rescue Whit and Jack. And rescue them Harley does, as only our intrepid Officer Harley can! There's one other twist to the story - how David, Whit, and Jack are going to escape. You'll enjoy finding out for yourself and discovering that appearances can be deceiving.

In this episode, their roles are reversed: Parley Baer plays the bootlegger and Hal Smith plays Whit, who is working against the bootleggers.
- This is the first episode where Whit is warned about the condition of his vehicle's tail-light by an officer at the end of the episode. This would happen again with Officer Cliffe in #403: “Faster Than a Speeding Ticket”.
