The first episode of Album 51, #655: “The Inspiration Station, Part 1”, continued right where Album 50 ended giving us more details on this invention, as Whit himself, Connie, and Matthew Parker in order tried out the machine, although there was not much description of how the machine works.
When the Odyssey team was brainstorming new ideas for Album 51, they had the idea of jumping far into the future as a cause of Connie's turning on the Station. That idea was scrapped, but the Inspiration Station does seem to still possess the ability for the user to lapse forward in time: Connie spends hours in the Station in #656: “The Inspiration Station, Part 2”, and doesn't even realize it.
