Talk:Katrina Meltsner
Um, thoughts on changing this to Katrina Meltsner? I know that is a lot of things to change but in reality she is just Katrina Meltsner now. When people address her Katrina Meltsner or Mrs. Meltsner would be her name. In real life, even when a woman gets married often times she will change bank accounts, license, credit card, etc. to her new maiden name and not the hyphened name. - I agree. I think she's only ever been addressed as Katrina Meltsner, actually; I don't know where the hyphen came from. Most women change their last names entirely when they get married. Her full legal name might be Katrina Shanks Meltsner—many women use their maiden names as their middle names when they get married—but I think her last name is now simply Meltsner. (Also, not to get picky, SWA, but you can't have a new maiden name; a maiden name is the last name a woman had before she was married.) TigerShadow (talk) 12:32, 13 July 2014 (MDT)
- I would assume the reason for "Shanks" is for the sake of the older episodes, when Katrina was unmarried. Although, a redirect solves that problem, easily. --KnightMiner (t|c) 14:15, 13 July 2014 (MDT)
- I on the other hand would prefer we leave this page, but change the episode pages. Since this is a character page, it is perfectly appropriate to have both last names. I can understand that it is redundant on episode pages, so those should be changed. It's kind of the same thing with Lucy Cunningham-Schultz-Davis. The Davis part isn't going to be on any episode page, except BTV: Live (which it isn't, but should be). In the similar manner, Katrina should have only Shanks on the episode pages where she is single and only Meltsner on the episode pages where she is married to Eugene. The only question I have is, if we do this, is the wiki software set up so that it understands that Katrina Meltsner is the same as Katrina Shanks and Katrina Shanks-Meltsner (and similarly Lucy Cunningham-Schultz and Lucy Cunningham-Schultz-Davis)? We don't want to remove episodes from the character pages. AIOCREfan ~ (talk) 07:53, 14 July 2014 (MDT)
- We could just remove the hyphen. Women with hyphenated last names who didn't marry into British aristocracy aren't really that common, to my knowledge; it's unusual for a woman to keep her maiden last name as part of her married last name. It's far more likely that Katrina did what most women do—her maiden name is now her middle name and her last name is now Meltsner. So her full legal name is now "Katrina Shanks Meltsner". Lucy's likewise isn't "Cunningham-Schultz-Davis"; it's "Lucy Cunningham-Schultz Davis"; most women don't go hyphen-happy when they get married. I think we should simply remove the hyphen on this page and change the episode pages like AIOCREFan suggested, but be sure to leave redirects so it doesn't affect her episode appearances. AIOCEFfan, I agree that on episodes she as address as Katrina Shanks we classify if as Katrina Meltsner|Katrina Shanks on that page...therefore showing Katrina Shanks but transfering her. I still think; however, that this page needs changed because he name is legally changed (and TigerShadow her full legal name wouldn't normally be Katrina Shanks Meltsner's, other than by choice). I would suggest that we open the article as Katrina Meltnser, formerly Katrina Shanks. Thoughts on that? Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 14:23, 14 July 2014 (MDT)
- I still think that we should leave the character page the way it is. Technically, we don't know what her full name is, specifically whether or not she kept Shanks in her name after she married. The way it is right now to me says first name-maiden name-last name. I'm not understanding why we need to change the character page, as it shows that both Katrina Shanks and Katrina Meltsner are the same person, without having to read into the article. Of course, if the majority disagrees with me, then I will gladly submit to it being changed. What are the rest of the admins thoughts? AIOCREfan ~ (talk) 21:03, 14 July 2014 (MDT)
- AIOCREFan brings up a good point, and one that I concede—we don't know that Katrina kept "Shanks" in her name. And because we don't know that, we probably shouldn't keep the hyphenated Shanks in there. I think we should change the article's title to Katrina Meltsner, but the first line reads something like "Katrina Meltsner (née Shanks)..." And then for the episodes we call her by whatever her legal name was at the time of the episode and then do redirects. TigerShadow (talk) 23:36, 14 July 2014 (MDT)
- I'll see if I can find out what FOTF uses internally as her full name, also we're talking about tweaking the cast part of episode pages, so while we do it we could add in a new feature to be something like "|actor = ABC | character = DEF| character_show = GHI" it would show GHI but it would be in the DEF category and link to the DEF page as well Reddo (talk) 08:40, 15 July 2014 (MDT)
- FOTF uses Mrs. Katrina Meltsner as her name Reddo (talk) 09:03, 15 July 2014 (MDT)
- So, essentially we will be fixing the "nasty" (as you have referred to it) hack of {{!}} and making it like the infobox. In which we had album_name and album_title...? Also, I think that kind of settles the Meltsner/Shanks-Meltsner debate...although valid points were brought up. Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 19:37, 15 July 2014 (MDT)

Maybe I'm missing something, but does this have anything to do with where the old pictures of her went? - Caswin (talk) 21:51, 30 September 2015 (MDT)
Episode Mentions
For some reason, all of the times Katrina has been mentioned are out of order. In her infobox, it says the last time she was mentioned was in #397: “Tornado!” (false), and the box that lists all of her episode mentions are out of order. puzzlemaster (talk) 10:11, 11 April 2020 (MDT)
- I'm guessing due to it using categories to track that one for shanks one for meltsner one for shanks-meltsner. We should be able fix that pretty easily if that's the case, I'm on mobile right now so it's hard to check Reddo (talk) 10:47, 11 April 2020 (MDT)
- It looks great now. Thank you! puzzlemaster (talk) 17:02, 11 April 2020 (MDT)
