Notes
- Trivia
- This episode begins with the return of the Odyssey characters who went to New York in #613: “The Top Floor, Part 3”.
- Early in this episode Katrina references Eugene's childhood attempt to help his parents diet by booby-trapping the family refrigerator — a story first referenced in #113: “Suspicious Minds”. She also references his destruction of a bathtub, an event referenced in #584: “Dead Ends”.
- In the same scene as above, Eugene references his purchase of Katrina's engagement ring; this occurred in #393: “Wrapped Around Your Finger”.
- Katrina makes a reference in this episode to Eugene's insistence on lecturing her regarding the efficiency of cleaning strokes on the dishes. This habit of Eugene's was seen with Bernard Walton in #178: “Room Mates”.
- In Leonard's flashback from this episode, Thelma asks him if he is traveling to Peru to find The Treasure of the Incas — a reference to the 2005 AIO computer game of the same name.
- This episode had possibly the most re-recording work done for any Adventures in Odyssey episode, according to Nathan Hoobler in an interview on The Unofficial Adventures in Odyssey Podcast.
- As discussed in the new Official Guide, this issue was alternately planned to be a 3 part and 2 part show.
- This three-part episode is only the second episode (collectively) in which abortion is mentioned or even suggested. The other episode is #134: “Pamela Has a Problem”.
- Young Eugene is portrayed in this episode by Shane Baumel, the actor who also portrayed Eugene's younger brother Everett just a few episodes prior in #613: “The Top Floor, Part 3”.
- Eugene's disaster with the bathtub and destruction of his father's desk, recounted in this episode, may have been inspired by a similar occurrence in the life of Thomas Edison, who dripped sulfuric acid on the floor while he was at work, destroying his boss's desk on the floor below. The incident would be discussed in #656: “The Inspiration Station, Part 2”.
- Eugene's wry joke to an unconscious Leonard in this episode about his being bedridden being the only way to get peace and quiet harkens back to a similar line spoken by Jason Whittaker to his own father in #212: “The Mortal Coil, Part 2”, suggesting that Whit's coma was the only way to get the family together. Doc Morton also tends the bedridden patients in both episodes.
Reviews
Quotes
John Whittaker: Now, that doesn't sound so unimaginable to me, Eugene.
Eugene Meltsner: W-what do you mean?
John Whittaker: A Meltsner being obstinate on matters of faith?
Eugene Meltsner: Ah... oh, I see.
John Whittaker: Keep working on him, Eugene.
