Album Covers

I was thinking that if we were to download and re-upload all of the cover art with a system like 01front.jpg and 01back.jpg. That way we could just put it in the Album Template and have it so it automatically puts the gallery below and in the infobox. And yes. I know it would be a big project, but we could assign/volunteer certain users to certain albums. God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk 19:21, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

A template might be able to decide which picture it is, but there is no parameter currently in the infobox that tells what album it is, so to do that it would have to be uploaded as "The Adventure Begins.jpg or something. Erwin Springer [talk] 19:26, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
Why would we have to do that? The page shows up as "Album 01: The Adventure Begins". So if we just put something to read the text after "Album " and add "front.jpg", wouldn't it work? God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk 19:37, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
That might work. produces "01: The Adventure Begins", but all album names have a different amount of letters, so we can't put (which produces "01") for every album, because forAlbum 05: Daring Deeds, Sinister Schemes (for example), it produces "05: Daring D" Erwin Springer [talk] 19:43, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
Is there a way for it to only read two numbers with options of 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0? God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk 20:01, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
Is there a way to say +2? In the above example, how did you get rid of "Album "? God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk 19:52, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
takes away the first six characters. Erwin Springer [talk] 19:54, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
If you look here, you can find lots of different formatting strings, and things that we can use. Erwin Springer [talk] 19:58, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
Oh cool. Thanks. God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk 20:04, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

I came up with some code:

Erwin Springer [talk] 20:07, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

So would that work then? Cause I was thinking about it and if we just uploaded them as 01:_The_Adventure_Begins.jpg, since it would all being done automatically than that might work too. It would be easier if what you (Erwin) came up with works.

produces

01front.jpg

produces

05front.jpg

So it seems to work. :) So if we put:

on the album pages, it would work. Erwin Springer [talk] 20:14, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

I could probably upload these by bot. Erwin Springer [talk] 20:19, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
It would not require that. If we just put that in the Template:Infobox Albums it would work, right? God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk 20:24, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
That's what I meant. ;) This could also help us better organize our album pictures better. Currently they're all just dumped here. We should also take into consideration that we might want to add "old" for the orginal version. Erwin Springer [talk] 20:27, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
Sorry I just missed the "upload". That would be really cool. Currently, they're all random names so if we had them all be organized that would be more convenient. God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk 20:30, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
So in the infobox should be:
<!---------------------------------Album Artwork---------------------------------->
<div></div></div>
<div style="clear:left;font-size:10px;text-align:center;border-top:2px solid #B3CDE6;"></div>

Can we change it, or do we want to upload the artwork first? God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk 20:57, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Did you decide whether you could do it via bot? God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk 20:59, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
I'm working on it with a bot. Most of this can probably be done that way, but it will require several different processes. Don't change the template, because the images haven't been moved yet. Erwin Springer [talk] 21:01, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
Okie dokie. Thanks for all your help. God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk 21:14, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Album images that go to albums 1-50 in Category:Album Images, can be moved to something like 05front.jpg or File:05front-old.jpg. Erwin Springer [talk] 21:26, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

So this can be done via bot? God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk 21:53, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
No. Erwin Springer [talk] 21:54, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
So how do we do it manually then? God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk 21:58, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
Move the images to the naming scheme that I suggested. :) Erwin Springer [talk] 22:05, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
So all of the series albums are Check.svg Done. I was thinking like Erwin did with the Truth Chronicles (tcfront.jpg) is a good system. A two letter abbreviation and then in the "summary" have Truth Chronicles if necessary God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk 23:49, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
It looks to me like only administrators can move file pages. God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk 23:50, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
So is there a way for the template to accept all the file types, because I do not think that they are all the same. God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk 00:26, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
As long as they are three letters, and th only ones that we use are "jpg" "png" and "gif" :) Erwin Springer [talk] 00:47, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Right now someone can remove the "current" line in albums 0-50, and it will then display auotmatically. Erwin Springer [talk] 01:05, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Odyssey Scoop Interwiki

Why doesn't the odyssey scoop interwiki work? Something like:

os:schedule

Should lead to http://www.odysseyscoop.com/schedule/ but instead it doesn't produce anything, as you can see in the sandbox. Erwin Springer [talk] 19:50, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

I dunno. When you go to the search box and type "os:schedule" it works just fine. But when you try to link to it it doesn't show up. pan style="color:#8B008B"> God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk

Update

A large portion of Where Odyssey is Not done but it still needs work. Wanted pages have gone down from 1,217 to 1,051 last time I checked Stop Wooton Around 04:04, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Yes, that's why it's a stub. The wanted pages is good too. It was very high at one point that I remember. Erwin Springer [talk] 19:55, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
I finished putting all the information from The Odyssey Scoope so, I took the article off of the article stub. Stop Wooton Around 23:09, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Portals

If we get a new namespace for a portal, we could create areas of the wiki into portals. - Such as episodes, albums, videos, characters, etc. Erwin Springer [talk] 01:48, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure if we really need portals on here, they were made on wikipedia as it's pretty big and covers a lot of different subjects, we're a lot smaller and only really concentrate on one thing. I do have some ideas though to make things look nicer than just the category pages that we have right now though. I've been meaning to do them for a while but I've been busy working on some other things such as a better version of the cat avg function but in php (not going so well) Reddo 19:41, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
The main reason I suggested it is because it can be hard for visitors to find what they're looking for. I think if we focus on making many pages that can replace caegories. Such as the Episode Writers page and the Albums navbox. We just need to keep doing things like that. Erwin Springer [talk] 02:16, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Staff Infobox

So I tried to change the staff infobox so all you have to do is |knownfor= Connie and then it would say "Best Known for" (left) "Connie" (right). But I messed it up and now it changes the size of the fonts and a bunch of random stuff. Could someone help me fix it? God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk 05:24, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

I'm not seeing why that would be an important thing to have in to infobox. There is a description on the page that may cover that topic. Erwin Springer [talk] 12:08, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Latest News

I think that it would be cool if we changed the style of the Latest news somehow. I was thinking like Yahoo! does with their news on the home page. Have the most resent one show up and have the others show up below that. I also thought it would be cool if you have the newest article expanded by default and then if you hover over the ones below it will contract the previous one and expand the one that is being hovered over. I am not sure how one would go about doing either of these but I someone has suggestions feel free to reply. God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk

Interesting ideas. I thought it might be worth it to put up our updates on a new system, such as how ikipedia templates do it. So if we had an announcemeny today, we put it under:

Then they would populate on one page. Erwin Springer [talk] 19:19, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
I am a little confused as to what you are saying. You mean like have a page detected to each news entry? God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk
I'm working on it. I was trying to import the pages via bot, but I'm having trouble with unincode symbols in the page for some reason. Erwin Springer [talk] 02:08, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
I think it would be messy and and complicated to do something like what Yahoo has but I might be able to figure something out, also I like what you did with the news items Erwin, but it might be better to create a new namespace "news" to put them in, (we can have 256 of them, why not use some of them?)

Reddo 07:39, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Sorry. I already "uploaded" them. (The pagefromfile feature is aweseome) If you create the namespaces and tell me what numbers they are, I can re-upload. Erwin Springer [talk] 12:15, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Check.svg Done I just put up several js scripts, and now on the main page, there is a news tab. (Only if your autoconfirmed) Click it, and it will preload a simple template. With this system, we:
 1. Can easily and quickly put up news items
 2. can create an automatic a new fromat on main page
 3. Don't have to move the "noinclude" tag every time
Erwin Springer [talk] 14:08, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
I added the new "News" namespace Reddo 02:59, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

It should be running now. Someone will have to go and delete the old pages though, because I can't figure out how to use the page move function. Erwin Springer [talk] 13:51, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Nevermind, I found how delete by bot. Erwin Springer [talk] 14:20, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Rating

So I was thinking and what if the rating for the album shows up as "average rating", and it was just the average of all the episodes. God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk

That's a great idea, I'll go put that in and see if it works! Erwin Springer [talk] 17:24, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
I added it, I like it there instead of a rating for the album! Erwin Springer [talk]
I really like it. The only thing that is unfortunate, is that in albums that have episodes that haven't been rated, the average is very low. Unless there's a way to exclude the 0% episodes, than I guess we will just have to wait until all the episodes are rated on. God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk 19:11, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
By using Cat avg2, it does that. If you look at User:Reddo/ideas with no use, under 2010 season. The Inspiration Station, Part 2, has one vote for 17% and The Inspiration Station, Part 1 has no votes. The fitrs number is with all in the season, and the second excludes episode that aren't rated. Erwin Springer [talk] 19:24, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
I was going to hold off putting it in the album pages until a few more votes had been put into our database, but whatever, now is good to. I think that right now most of the ratings for episodes are a little higher than they should be, but if we give it some time and let more people rate the episodes I'm sure the ratings will only get closer to the general opinion of the episode (right now a lot only have one vote).
I'm really glad that people like the system, I've wanted to put it in for a long, long time (year or so) but there were other things that needed doing first. Reddo 20:49, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
Do we want to go with Cat avg2 until all episodes are rated? It would require something that displays something other than a red error when none in that category have been rated. Erwin Springer [talk] 22:21, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
cat avg2 works okay for that but i would have to spend some time and look at it to find a way to get rid of the 0 error, plus it's harder on the server, I think we can just stick with the one that we have now, I've started offering $ on the ToO for users to log on and rate episodes for us.
There are a lot of places that we can (and that I would like to) use this in, I played around with it a bit this afternoon and I came up with this as a replacement for the old page, it's just a start (needs some prettyfing yet) and we'll have to manually update it once a week or so but I think it's pretty cool and when more ratings have been logged it should show us some interesting stats like who is the favorite writer, director, which season is the best, ect. Reddo 23:11, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Did you start a thread on the ToO, I'm not seeing it... Erwin Springer [talk] 00:53, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

I'm not seeing it either, I know I wrote something for it, maybe I just clicked preview and then went to a different page, I'll try posting it again Reddo 01:13, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Character Intersection Search

So I was thinking that we could change the character intersection to have search boxes with a dropdown of top searches. God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk 04:30, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

we could but then they wouldn't be autocomplete your search query, and then people would search for things like whit, and it would return 0 results leading people to think that it is broken Reddo 05:20, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
also, right now only characters that are in only 1 episode are not included in character intersection, if people know the names that well they can just use the search box on the sidebar Reddo 05:51, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Projects

I think we should simply delete the project pages as they aren't really doing much, because we discuss here instead. :) Erwin Springer [talk] 20:13, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

I think that we should change our new releases to something like: God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk 22:02, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

That's pretty cool Kenan24 23:20, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
The JS involved in that code has some serious problems and is messing with other stuff on pages causing things like a countdown clock and even the collapsing sidebar to not always work, as such I am removing it, I will try to find a suitable replacement Reddo 21:02, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

I Have a Question...

Whenever there's cleanup to do on an article or it needs adding to, the tag on it always says something along the lines of "Please do not remove until proper standards are met." What, exactly, are these standards? I never seem to find any indication on what said standards are. TigerintheShadows 15:37, 8 July 2009 (UTC)TigerintheShadows

I'm not sure if there are standards. I think those articles you are talking about are called stubs. They don't want the tag to be removed until there is sufficient information on that page. Sometimes there are things that there isn't enough information that exists, so I don't know what the protocol for that is.Dr. Bluegaard 17:27, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
I think that still roots from templates copied from wikipedia. I think it's up to anyone's choice if it has enough info. Erwin Springer [talk] 22:44, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Episodes with group

I there a way that we could make an automatic list of episodes with (eg.) the Bones of Rath? God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk 01:01, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

right now not really, If we add a note with a category or something to each page then we can. we could try and use the existing character categories but the members of the bones of wrath that appear varies from episode to episode Reddo 01:11, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
That would be pretty easy if we simply added the category manualy ir by the infobox to add the category to the episode pages. Erwin Springer [talk] 01:15, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Darien's Rise Countdown

I found some js code that we could use put a Darien's Rise countdown timer on the Main Page. You can find it here. For some reason it wont load here. What do you think? I'm not sure how fast it loads. Erwin Springer [talk] 15:03, 11 July 2009 (UTC) Perhaps we could put it in the Site notcie. Erwin Springer [talk] 15:33, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

It seems to work fine for me loading here

Only September 19 2009 00:00:00 PST until Darien's Rise.

It should cache the js code needed to run the countdown so it won't delay the page load time at all. I don't think that the site notice would be a good place to put it, a long time ago when there used to be new episodes coming up there was a section for it on the mainpage that said the date and the name of episode, I think that we could bring this back but add the countdown part to it. Reddo 01:13, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
hmm that's interesting I see what you mean now, when I preview it loads fine but when I save the page it doesn't, I'll look into that Reddo 01:15, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
okay i found the problem of why it won't load here, not sure exactly but it is something to do with the slideshow a couple of sections above. Somehow the slideshow js is overpowering the countdown js even if the slideshow is later on in the page. i don't think I'll be able to fix the problem but I'll look into it Reddo 08:40, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
