The Treasure Is a Bible phenomenon is an occurrence in Odyssey in which an object that was previously believed to be a treasure that would be of materialistic or monetary gain to the owner is instead revealed to be a Bible. A branch of the Treasure Is a Bible Phenomenon is The Treasure Was Actually The Lessons You Learned Along the Way Phenomenon, in which the characters are almost able to claim an actual monetary treasure, but due to unforeseen circumstances, are unable to, and instead decide that the real treasure was the beautiful lessons about God they learnt along the way.

History

The Treasure of Le Monde!

The Treasure Is a Bible Phenomenon began with the episode #102: “The Treasure of Le Monde!”. This episode illustrates the classic concept of the Treasure Is a Bible phenomenon: Connie, Whit, and Lucy discover a treasure, only for a greedy evil man who just wants money to claim it-- only to be super upset when the object he's literally devoted fifty years of his life to finding is a Bible, which he could have picked up at any Christian book store for five bucks. The Phenomenon is also present in The Treasure of Le Monde!'s video adaptation, The Caves of Qumran.

The Treasure Room

#433a: “The Treasure Room” led to a major disagreement in the Adventures In Odyssey theologian community. In this episode, instead of Whit's "treasure room" being a room full of material or monetary treasure, the so-called "treasure room" was actually full of pictures of the kids in Odyssey which is not creepy at all. Whit explains that the kids God has brought into his life are the real treasure. Adventures in Odyssey theologians now disagree on whether the most important treasure is people, the bible, or lessons. A group of theologians, who have been ostracized from the AIOT community, still maintain that the treasure is actually material and monetary gain. This led to the controversial 2018 drama film The Treasure's Not People, about a ragtag group of Adventures in Odyssey theologians who try to prove to their people-istic Adventures in Odyssey 101 teacher that the treasure is actually material and monetary gain. The film was critically panned and was briefly the lowest rated film on the IMDB Bottom 100 list; however, it received critical praise from the Treasure is Material and Monetary Gain community, who especially praised the appearance of the Newsboys, who are devout Treasure is Material and Monetary Gain-ists. The Newsboys hold a concert in the film, but no one attends, because they don't really care for the music.

Fathers and Sons

#809: “Fathers and Sons” creates a branch of The Treasure is a Bible Phenomenon, the Treasure Is a Bible But Oh Wait It's Not Psych Phenomenon. In the episode, the main characters believe the treasure to be a Bible, causing much disappointment, but at the last minute the treasure is actually revealed to unprecedented materialistic and monetary gain. The majority of theological professors with a degree in Adventures in Odyssey studies believe this to be a case of AIO trying to be hip with the kids by teaching them that Bibles are cool, but having lots of money is way cooler because it's the 21st century and you can be anything.
