Talk:Odyssey

I've often thought that Odyssey sort of represents Focus on the Family's ideal of the American small town. Kids are allowed to ride their bikes all over town without any apparent boundary and while warned not to talk to strangers, are nevertheless not required to be supervised by an adult all the time like one might expect in real life given the prevalence of child predators these days. There is a high degree of trust between nearly all citizens which I'm not sure most real small towns actually have, and the "Mayor of Odyssey" seems to have much greater authority than real mayors have. Federalism seems to still exist to some degree as the citizens of Odyssey in the Blackgaard saga find themselves at odds with the state government, not the feds. The federal government in Adventures in Odyssey always seemed to be "the good guys" against the bad international terrorists, (which I would say it is in real life) but generally not the ever-expanding all-consuming tyrannical monster we have known it to be gradually turning into in real life. The absurd and humorous portrayal of Bart Rathbone's campaign for mayor makes several not-too-subtle jabs at liberal American politics in both the social and the economic sense. And overall, Odyssey (I am speaking of the older broadcasts that I remember - no idea what it's like now) has always seemed to be way too nice to be realistic, like a Norman Rockwell painting. That doesn't mean it isn't great art, just that it's unrealistic nature might undermine the effectiveness of it's message in some ways. Well anyway these are my thoughts on the town of Odyssey.

Oh, and Ohio? Somehow I always pictured Odyssey as existing in Michigan. Don't know why. --Nerd42 21:45, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

After listening to #129: “Not One of Us” again today, I suspect that Odyssey's location can be safely inferred to be the southeast border of Ohio. This may merit a new section on the page listing all the clues that lead to this — something I may start soon. Crnel (talk)

The Location Of Odyssey

I was looking at the tab of the location of Odyssey in the page, and I thought it noteworthy that Chicago seems to be the closet big city to Odyssey. WootonBasset (talk) 11:25, 11 March 2019 (MDT)

Indians

I think this was correct and historically accurate as people in the 1800's referred to Indians as Indians not "Native Americans" leave it as it was in the episode. OdysseyFan (talk) 15:57, 23 October 2020 (MDT)
