Ned Tatch was an old hermit.

History

Ned lived alone in a cove several decades ago in the town of Bath, North Carolina. His encounter with young Whit and Jack Allen was shown in a flashback in the episode Blackbeard's Treasure.

According to Whit’s uncle, Sheriff Randy, Ned did not have a desire for money or anything else; instead, what he really wanted was to be left alone. Ned would dress himself up as the ghost of Blackbeard in order to scare intruders away from his home. (It is possible that he’d heard of the stories about Blackbeard, and got the idea of pretending to be Blackbeard’s ghost from them.)
