Discussion Questions

  1. Name several ways your family likes to pass the time on long road trips. Do you have a favorite game or "car snack"?
  2. Some travelers like to plan out a trip more thoroughly than others. Would a schedule as detailed as Eugene's be comforting, or would you find that stressful? What does Proverbs 21:5 say about planning ahead?
  3. Describe a memorable journey your family has taken together. What made it special or unusual? If you could experience it again, would you do anything differently this time?
  4. Clint obviously wasn't a good match for Connie. If you could help Connie find her special guy, what are some qualities that would lead to a better fit?
  5. Connie said, "We have to look out for each other, Eugene. We're friends." What are some ways you look out for your friends? Read Proverbs 18:24 and talk about what it means to be a "true" friend (ISV).
  6. Even when we mean well, we can still hurt our friends. Has that ever happened to you? How did Eugene hurt Connie's feelings, and what did he do to make things right?
  7. Whit and Bruce had a rocky start, but quickly became pals. What do you think made the difference? After discussing this, consider James 1:19 and Colossians 3:12.
  8. Penny's friends went many miles (or kilometers) out of their way to support her. When has a friend done something special for you? What can you do to encourage a friend today?
  9. Read Proverbs 27:17 and Hebrews 10:24. Why is it important to choose friends who will support us as we follow Jesus?
  10. Chris described an Old Testament road trip shared by the prophets Elijah and Elisha (2 Kings 2:1-18). Can you think of any other famous treks in the Bible? Who went the distance . . . and how was God with them?
