Double Trouble Wonderworld Flash Flood

[edit] Summary

Jimmy Barclay begins taking himself a little too seriously as he grows up, deciding that he's too old for Whit's End, until his sister, Donna, blackmails him into babysitting hyperactive, imaginative Lawrence Hodges. Jimmy learns that you are never too old to have an imagination.

[edit] Plot

Christopher Robin is leaving Pooh's Corner. At least, that’s what it feels like to Whit when Jimmy Barclay announces that he is getting too old to come to Whit’s End and play in the Imagination Station. In fact, Jimmy is beginning to think that the whole imagination scene is just a bit too immature for him. He even takes on a heavy responsibility, baby-sitting for Donna. He watches a young, energetic bundle of pure imagination named Lawrence Hodges.

While Jimmy is baby-sitting, he and Lawrence go to Wonderworld Treehouse, where Lawrence takes Jimmy on a roller coaster ride of fantasy fun. They stop at a prisoner of war camp, Nottingham Forest, the African veldt, and the headquarters of the evil agency Destructo. Jimmy tries his best to maintain his new found “adult” composure. But little by little, Lawrence wears Jimmy down until the two of them jump headlong into the imagination river. They have a great time, and Jimmy realizes that you’re never too old to be a kid again.

[edit] Notes

Trivia
  • This episode introduced one of AIO's most popular characters, Lawrence Hodges.
  • The movie Jimmy and Lawrence are watching when Lawrence builds the tunnel seems to be a very vague reference to The Great Escape with the movie being named 'Breakout from Stalag V' and the mean German saying 'You vill nevah escape. Nevah!'
  • When Donna goes to get Jimmy and Lawrence for dinner, as she is walking away, we hear them still playing, and yelling about the direction of their sinking ship. It's on heading 118-same as the star ship Wonder in #144: “Someone to Watch Over Me”.
  • Lawrence's fantasy in the woods is a reference to the movie The Bridge on the River Kwai.
  • Lawrence's call number near the end of the episode, NCC-1701, is a reference to the the number of the Starship Enterprise in the Star Trek universe. Jimmy's, 1138, is a recurring number in products and works related to George Lucas.
