And That's the Truth
Ephesians 4:15
“And That's the Truth” is episode #556 of the Adventures in Odyssey audio series. It was written and directed by Nathan Hoobler, and originally aired on December 4, 2004.
Summary
Tamika Washington takes her Sunday school lesson on honesty very seriously. At J & J Antiques, Jack Allen struggles to tell his new employee a difficult truth.
Plot
Tamika makes a promise to be truthful at all cost—no matter how much it hurts (or how hard it is). Instead of being considerate with her truthfulness, she is brutally honest and says whatever opinion comes to her mind. When she tries Whit's new sundae, she tells him it is gross and tastes like she’s eating a tree. She even goes as far as to tell him he should find a contest for the worst flavor of ice cream ever! When her mom asks Tamika if she likes her new haircut, Tamika tells her it looks like she’s wearing a possum on her head. She tells her dad he’s fat and her brother that his music sounds terrible.
In the meantime, Jack Allen is having trouble with a new employee. The employee is caught lying, doing poor work, and not doing some work at all.
In the end, Mr. Allen and Tamika both learn a lesson in gentle but firm honesty.

Notes
- Trivia
- Marvin's only line in this episode is "What?"
- We learn in this episode that Whit collects trains—a fact that would explain the presence of the train set at Whit's End.
- Joanne makes a brief reference to the Haugaard Book collection in this episode. A Haugaard book was previously stolen from Holstein's Books during the events of #309: “The Perfect Witness, Part 1”.
- Allusions
- Whit facetiously compares Jack to the 16th-century explorer Ferdinand Magellan in this episode.
- In this episode PJ compares the antique gallery to the Section 51 Hangar where the Ark of the Covenant was stored at the end of the original Indiana Jones film, Raiders of the Lost Ark.
- Main article: List of Indiana Jones references
- Goofs
- Whit refers to Annie from this episode as "Ashley." Though it is possible that Tamika told two different kids that their respective writings were poor, it's not very likely.
Quotes
Joanne Allen: We're glad you're so excited. We're happy to have you.
PJ Manning: Excited nothing. PJ now stands for "perfectly joyful."
PJ Manning: Neato. This'll be like working where they hid the ark of the covenant.
Jack Allen: I doubt you'll find that in here.
Joanne Allen: Then again, you never know with this place. Think you can handle it, PJ?
PJ Manning: Are you kidding? From this point on PJ stands for "professional and judicious."
PJ Manning: Can you say "wicked awesome cool," Mr. Allen?
Jack Allen: I'm afraid I might sprain something. But that's great, PJ.
Jack Allen: By the way, how did PJ do with the cataloging today?
Joanne Allen: You didn't see any of his work yet?
Jack Allen: I'm afraid not. Though he did stop in to say that PJ now stood for Peanut Butter and Jelly or something like that.
Jack Allen: We need to talk about the work you've done with the antiques. I'm glad you've been enjoying what you're doing...
PJ Manning: Enjoying it? Are you kidding? PJ now stands for "pizza and joviality." I can hardly get to sleep at night I'm having so much fun.
PJ Manning: Hello, Mr. Allen. I'm filling out my time cards. PJ stands for "prompt and just as diligent," after all.
PJ Manning: You could fit my whole family in that bathtub!
Joanne Allen: You have a big family?
PJ Manning: Nah. I'm an only child. But I have a split personality.
