Rights, Wrongs and Reasons

“Rights, Wrongs and Reasons” is episode #217 of the Adventures in Odyssey audio series. It was written and directed by Phil Lollar, and originally aired on January 2, 1993.

Summary

Whit, Connie and Jenny discuss four situations to see if they can spot the differences between the good and bad things people do and the reasons why they do it.

Plot

Whit and Connie are playing a game called “Rights, Wrongs & Reasons” when Jenny Roberts walks up and asks what they’re doing. Connie explains that it’s a guessing game Whit created. It deals with actions and motivations. “Rights and Wrongs” are the things we do in a given situation. “Reasons” are the motivations for those actions.

One person sets up a scenario. The other person has to guess which of four categories the scenario falls into: doing the right thing for the right reason, the right thing for the wrong reason, the wrong thing for the right reason, or the wrong thing for the wrong reason. For instance, Connie tells Jenny, giving a part of your allowance to the church because God wants you to is doing the right thing for the right reason.

Once Jenny understands, Whit and Connie present her with several scenarios involving two girls named Heather and Sherry. When Jenny guesses correctly every time, Whit and Connie move on to a tougher, Old Testament scenario: the death of Uzzah in 2 Samuel 6 and 1 Chronicles 13. Everyone enjoys the afternoon, and both Jenny and Connie know more about motives.

This plot section is too short and should be expanded. »
