Luke 2:16-20
17When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.
20The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.“Grandma's Christmas Visit” is episode #678 of the Adventures in Odyssey audio series. Summary
The Parker’s grandma comes for a Christmas visit, in the middle of an elaborate Christmas celebration cooked up by Eugene and Connie. The Parker family parents wonder if it’s possible to have a Christmas without stress.
Plot
The gang at Whit's End are trying a new tradition. First, they act out Mary and Joseph looking for an inn-with the director yelling orders. Then they go on to the "Let's make a White Elephant Deal" game show, in which Matthew gets an 8 track tape and a quarter worth over $100, Camilla gets used socks and a gift card for the mall for $20, and Emily Jones gets a cereal box and a necklace.

Discussion Questions
- Like the gang in Odyssey, do we ever get caught up in holidays and traditions without giving glory to God?
- Should we let the stress and pressure around Christmas effect us?

Notes
- Trivia
- The original title for this episode was "The White Elephant Gift."
- This was the first Christmas episode since #582: “Silent Night”.
- Eugene previously changed the Whit's End bell in #52: “Connie, Part 2”.
- Matthew's 1932 S Washington Quarter, true to Eugene's representation, would be worth around $174 if in average condition.
- Audio
- The final music cue to this episode contains the iconic first four notes to the chorus of "Joy to the World".
- Allusions
- The KYDS Radio game show Let's Make a White Elephant Deal is a reference to the long-running (and at the time of the episode's original broadcast, recently revived) game show Let's Make a Deal. After Whit introduces him, Eugene refers to Whit as "Jay", a reference to Jay Stewart, the narrator of Let's Make a Deal from 1964-1977.
- Christian Decor, the designer of Olivia's Mary costume, is a reference to fashion designer Christian Dior.
- Eugene refers to Matthew as the "Whiz kid of Menlo Street"; this is an allusion to Thomas Edison's nickname: the Wizard of Menlo Park.
