Communicate!
{{#w4grb_rate:}}
Communicate! is a rap song featured in the early Adventures in Odyssey episode #3: “Lights Out at Whit's End”.
Notes
- The AIO writers often cite this song as one of the reasons that #3: “Lights Out at Whit's End” was an unreleased episode for about 25 years. They consider it to be slightly embarrassing.
- Besides #3: “Lights Out at Whit's End”, two other episodes also feature rap songs: #376: “Chores No More” and the episode #721: “The Holy Hoopster”, which features Holy Hoop Rap.
- Communicate! was spoofed in the 28th episode of the The Ceiling Fan, a fan podcast.
- A little part of Communicate is on a cassette tape in Out of the Woods. Eugene starts to play it and Detective Polehaus asks him to change it, similar to how the AIO writers were embarrassed by the song.
Fan video
Kevin McCreary of the The Ceiling Fan created this video remix of Communicate! at Whit's End (Colorado Springs).
Lyrics
Hey, you on the drum, how ‘bout a little help?
OK kids, put your hands together.
Now listen here kids, gonna tell you something great, ‘bout some different ways to communicate. You can put up a sign, you can write a book, you can say your life ‘bout the way you look. You can grumble, you can mutter, you can stammer, you can blab, you can shatter, you can tatter, you can lecture, you can gab. You can use a pen or paper, or slate and chalk. But the best way to do it is to sit down and talk.
Communicate, communicate, just open up your heart and communicate. We gotta share ideas, there’s no time to wait, and the best way to do it is communicate.
OK, time for someone else to try. You young lady, come on up here.
Young Lady:
Me?
David Harley:
Yeah, go on, take a verse, it’s easy.
Young Lady:
When you talk and it’s funny, it can be a blast, but you really get in trouble if you talk in class.
David Harley:
All right Bobby, your turn.
You can talk by your locker, or anywhere you go, you can talk underwater just like Jacque Cousteau!
Adults:
Communicate, communicate, just open up your heart and communicate. We gotta learn to laugh because joy is great, and the best way to do it is communicate.
David Harley:
If you wanna make friends with the people you meet. You gotta know conversation, it’s a two way street.
She says hi, and you say hello, now ya gotta a conversation, and away you go.
David Harley:
She asked about his family.
Marianne Josephs:
He asked about her friend.
David Harley and Marianne Josephs:
That’s good communication, no tellin’ were it ends!
Adults:
Communicate, communicate, just open up your heart and communicate. Wanna learn about your cousin, and your uncle Nate. And the best way to do it is communicate.
David Harley:
C'mon Tom, it’s your turn now.
OK, I’ll try it.
Be swift to hear, be slow to speak, be slow to anger, do you get it, meek? Hey, I think I got it. This is fun. OK Whit, you try it.
John Whittaker:
I believe I will.
God can take someone who’s lost in sin, and make their life brand new again. But how they gonna know new life is great, if Christians like us don’t communicate?
Adults:
Communicate, just open up your heart and communicate. We gotta share the gospel before it’s too late. And the best way to do it is communicate.
All:
Communicate, just open up your heart and communicate. We gotta share the gospel before it’s too late. And the best way to do it is communicate.
Harley:
Can you hear me now!?
All:
Communicate! [Cheering]
...later...
David Harley:
Ah, Whit, Whit, excuse me, excuse me, I have something very important to say here.
Whit:
What’s that?
David Harley:
Hit it. A one, two, three, four...
All:
Communicate, Communicate, just open up your heart and communicate. We gotta share ideas, there’s no time to wait. And the best way to do it is communicate.
