Mrs. York (née Mary Elizabeth Brooks) was a Godly woman who raised her children to serve and love God; she also prayed deeply for her children. At the same time she believed in being a good citizen, and when Alvin was drafted, she believed in submitting to the authority appointed over them, even if that meant her son would have to go to war.
History
She was the mother of World War I hero Alvin York. She and Gracie Williams prayed for him regularly while he was at war. After he came home she attended her son's wedding.
