Summary
Marvin Washington and Trent DeWhite put the Imagination Station to some unexpected uses--to cheat and to get revenge.
Plot
Marvin and Trent get to experience one of Whit's new programs for the Imagination Station. They need help with their math class because they are having trouble learning story problems and Whit shows them a new way to look at their homework—using the Imagination Station to simulate the style of problem to give the boys a situation in which to solve the problem properly. Whit has scanned Trent's drawing of a space station into the Imagination Station that allows them to solve a problem about the velocity of a meteor in the space station it's about to hit. They understand how to solve the problem, and both are excited—Trent and Marvin feel that Dr. Hawthorne makes the math too difficult by expecting them to get it right the first time.
The next day, the boys' math class has done an abysmal job on their homework—all except for Trent and Marvin. Trent is called to the front of the room to do a story problem, but because of pressure and Dr. Hawthorne's time constraints, he ends up humiliating himself in front of the class.
Both boys go back to the Imagination Station to do the program again, and Trent scans in a picture of Dr. Hawthorne to simulate his presence—Trent thinks that if he gets used to Dr. Hawthorne pressuring him, he won't end up embarrassing himself again. Trent and Marvin both enjoy the program, but Trent, realizing that he is dealing with a virtual teacher and not the real person, begins to talk back to Dr. Hawthorne. During one adventure that culminates in Trent making up a problem for Dr. Hawthorne, Marvin enters the station and rewinds the recorded program to the first assigned problem. Trent is then shocked to learn that Marvin uses the program to fast forward to the end of the adventure to get the answers for the homework instead of actually learning how to do the problems. Trent reprimands Marvin for this, but Marvin points out that if Trent talking back to Dr. Hawthorne isn't wrong, then neither is his fast-forwarding to the answers.
The next day in class, Dr. Hawthorne surprises Marvin by declaring that they are having a pop quiz. Trent is prepared, but Marvin, desperate and aware of his inability to do word problems, asks Trent to keep his paper uncovered so Marvin can see his answers. Trent, incredulous, asks Marvin if he wants him to help him cheat just as Dr. Hawthorne walks by. Dr. Hawthorne accuses Trent of plotting to cheat and gives him detention, and Trent loses his temper and yells at Dr. Hawthorne that he is being unfair. Dr. Hawthorne takes Trent out in the hall, Marvin remarking that while he is in trouble, Trent is toast.
Later at Whit's End, Trent walks in as Marvin is helping Whit fix Davey's Pizza Oven, and Whit tells both boys that he reviewed the Imagination Station adventures that he told them he would record. Marvin immediately apologizes for cheating, then looks pointedly at Trent, who does not see what he did wrong, believing that he was simply using the Imagination Station for its intended purpose--to learn and experience new things. Whit tells him that yelling at a teacher, real or not, was disrespectful and caused him to do so in real life, just as Marvin thought nothing of cheating because he'd done it so much in the Imagination Station. Both Trent and Marvin learn an important lesson on how what we think also effects what we do. Mr. Whittaker tells them that Philippians 4:8 says, "Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on these things."
Just before Trent has to get home to prepare for the tutoring sessions his parents have set up with Dr. Hawthorne, Whit shows them the drawing Trent did of the space station that was scanned in to the Imagination Station--Whit has framed it and wants them to hang it up in the Treasure Room in the exact center of the wall, and Trent and Marvin set to work. They figure out the length of the wall, divide it in half, measure the distance between the two holes for the frame and—Trent stops. "Don't look now," he says, "but I think we're doing a story problem." Mr. Whittaker is indeed quite clever, the boys note, and Trent now feels he owes Dr. Hawthorne another apology—for thinking he'd never use what he's been taught.

Quotes
Trent DeWhite: Mr. Whittaker, that was the coolest Imagination Station adventure ever!
Marvin Washington: Yeah, and the best math class I've ever had.
Marvin Washington: I'm in trouble, but you're toast.
Trent DeWhite: Thanks, Marvin.
John Whittaker: If you're filling your mind with the good stuff, there won't be any room for the bad stuff.
Marvin Washington: Bad stuff? Does that include story problems?
Trent DeWhite: Oh really? So, have you ever in your life had to divide up 90 gallons of mayonnaise evenly among three people?
