Anna and her brother Kyle visited her grandparents in the town of Odyssey in 1958. While there, Anna and Kyle entered the world of Marus (by means of an abandoned house in the woods). She and Kyle returned to Odyssey after what seemed like months, but only three hours had passed.
Time in Marus
Anna was imprisoned for being a spy by King Lawrence. She was nearly sold as a slave, but the Old Judge rescued Anna. She lived with the Old Judge for a time, becoming his pupil. Anna began to have dreams about things that were happening or going to happen. She was reunited with her brother when he and Darien retreated to the Old Judge's house. Soon after, she was sent to Sister Leona's convent to learn the ways of the Unseen One. Though she was warned of the convent's destruction, Anna was not able to prevent the tragic fire and death of her many friends there. Anna put her gifts to use for Darien's forces, becoming a voice of battle strategy. During the climactic conflict, she was held hostage by the Adrians along with other Marutians until Darien returned to conquer. She then returned to our world, where she found her brother injured. At the end, she and Kyle have a talk about Marus.
Anna was 10 years old during events of "The Chronicle of the Chosen." She had brown eyes while in Odyssey, though in Marus her eyes changed to green and blue. She also has long, thick brown hair.
|“|| Anna: ...look, it's a house!
|“|| Old Judge: The Unseen One is the creator and sustainer of all things; he is everywhere at all times: all-seeing, all-knowing, all powerful.
Anna: Like God.
Old Judge: No, not like God; the Unseen One is God.
|“|| Anna: Being chosen doesn't mean doing exciting things all the time. It doesn't mean that we're always being used by the Unseen One [God]. Sometimes it means waiting and being patient.
|“|| Anna: We were chosen for one thing in Marus, so we must be chosen for something else here.
|“|| Anna: One minute, I was in an old house in Odyssey, and the next I was in the king's closet!
|“|| Anna: If the Unseen One is God, than he is God everywhere.
|“|| Anna: But what if King Lawrence has you arrested — or you're killed?
Darien: Then we've all been terribly misled and the Unseen One didn't really choose me to be king.
|“|| Anna: How's your stomach?
Kyle: Ugh. I can't be his [Darien's] protector if he's going to do stuff like this.
|“|| Sister Leona: To be a voice for the Unseen One [God] can be a great burden. Sometimes it involves suffering; even sharing the suffering of others but, our faith in the Unseen One [God] carries us through.
Anna: I don't know if I have that kind of faith.
Sister Leona: Perhaps not; but you will. You must feed the faith you have with prayer and study, silence and solitude. It is like a small seed that needs nurturing to blossom.
